3X3 BASKETBALL COURT

In the summer of 2021, visual artist and designer Molly Hawkins embarked on an ambitious project to create a full floor artwork for the first-ever 3x3 basketball court in the UK, located at Writtle College University. This large-scale, bespoke floor art installation was meticulously planned and executed by Molly and a team of painters using specialised tennis court paint and equipment.
Throughout the creative process, Molly engaged in ongoing conversations with the Writtle College University Sports Department and the University Board to discuss design alterations, ensuring the final result would meet and exceed the expectations of all stakeholders. Additionally, Molly took on a leadership role, managing a team of volunteers throughout the course of the project.
Despite the challenges, such as working in intense heat and adapting to team members becoming unwell, Molly and her team completed the project within the scheduled two-week timeframe. Upon completion, the innovative floor art installation captured the attention of the press and garnered interviews with Sky Sports, Basketball England, and Design Week.
The Writtle College University 3x3 basketball court project pushed Molly to her limits, showcasing her impressive artistic abilities, adaptability, and project management skills. Ultimately, this diverse and demanding project left Molly eager to take on more projects of a similar calibre, further demonstrating her dedication to her craft and her passion for creating impactful, large-scale public art installations.
