Stapleton Road
Community aRTWORK
Studio Meraki and Eastside Community Trust collaborated on an inspiring project, with Molly Hawkins leading one of three public art installations aimed at revitalizing Stapleton Road in Bristol. The project sought to foster community pride, enhance the visual landscape, and encourage locals and visitors to engage with Easton’s vibrant character.
This large-scale mural in the heart of Easton, with its design shaped through a series of craft workshops hosted by Molly. During these sessions, locals shared stories, contributed ideas, and envisioned colours, symbols, and motifs that captured the vibrancy of Stapleton Road. These elements were then incorporated into the final design, and workshop participants even helped paint the mural.
The Free Community Workshop highlights included:
Afghan Tasty Corner: A drop-in workshop where participants learned collage-making using various materials, fostering creativity and community connection.
Molly Mural Studio: A "Public Artwork Designing" workshop where community members collaborated on ideas for the mural, exploring techniques like spray painting, stencil creation, and colour theory.
Trinity Centre: A "Mini Mural Creation" class where participants crafted draft designs and exchanged ideas influenced by local traditions and community ethos, identifying key themes for the final mural.

“This project is about more than just creating art; it's about creating a shared experience. I've been so inspired by people of all ages and cultures coming together, sharing stories, and connecting to create this collaboration. It's been an honour!”
